The 535-mile journey can be completed in approximately 12-13 hours. Allow approximately £40 each way for road tolls. The choice for crossing the channel lies between the ferries and the Eurotunnel. The main operators are: P&O - www.posl.com, Sea France - www.seafrance.com, Eurotunnel - www.eurotunnel.co.uk. The journey can be completed in a day or if you wish to stop over to break the journey, there are numerous forms of accommodation close to the motorway to suit different budgets. The Holiday Inn at Troyes is approximately half way to Champery from Calais (tel 0033 325438080). The Ibis Hotel at Bourg en Bresse is two hours from Champery (tel 0033 474223080).
Driving from Geneva Airport
Driving time from Geneva airport is approx 1hr 30. Although we have done it in 1hr20 and 2hrs depending on driving conditions.
Take the left exit out of the airport following signs to Lausanne. Stay Left. Join the motorway E62. Stay on this for approx 50KM. Motorways split but keep following signs for E62 towards Simplon and Grand St Bernard. Once you have passed Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) and the Pass Le Chablais rest stop and petrol station you come off at Junction 18 signposted for Portes Du Soleil / Val D’illiez / St Triphon.
Follow signs for Monthey turn right at T junction towards Monthey and Portes Du Soleil. Cross over the bridge at roundabout follow signs for Champery (3rd exit) then continue following signs for Champery until you start climbing. Pass through the villages of Trois Torrents, and Val D’illiez as you reach Champery continue straight until you reach the cable car (can’t miss it is lit up with red neon at night and is on your left) take the right turn here . Follow the road up the hill past Mitchells Bar and Restaurant on your left. At the T junction (opposite the Vieux Chalet restaurant) take the left turn up the hill. Carry on up the hill for approx 250 metres bearing right (do not take the left fork which has the no entry sign) until you come to Chalet Rosa (blue shutters on your left) Les Oursons (our place) is just beyond it up on your right our front facing shutters are painted purple, and you will see our Les Oursons sign by the entrance door on the ground floor.
If you continue up the road for another 50 metres there is a wide opening where you can turn the car around to be able to park on our path. Please take extra care in winter as our path can be snowy and icy.
Returning to Geneva Airport
Best services for filling up petrol on your way back to Geneva is 5k past Ikea on the E62 motorway. It is signposted as the La Cote exit. There is also a restaurant and mini supermarket here.

We also use Skiidy Gonzales http://www.skiidygonzales.com/ they can take up to 8 including all kit from Geneva to our front door for approx €230 (Euros) and €460 (Euros) for a return (last checked 2008). This is a great way to save money on car hire but have the luxury of a private transfer.
By train from Geneva Airport
From the airport take the train to Aigle, at Aigle you change onto the AOMC train which takes to to Champery. The Geneva to Aigle journey should take you approx. 1 hour the Aigle to Champery journey is 1.5 hours. On arriving at Champery you can either take the bus which takes you into the village or you can walk the 8-10 minute route to the chalet. Cross the main road and take the road in front of you up the hill past Mitchell’s bar and restaurant continue until you come to the t junction at the top, here, take the left hand road (rue de planacheaux) keep on going until you come to a chalet on the left with blue shutters called Chalet Rosa, Les Oursons is the chalet up on your right – you’ll see the name sign. Although you can take the train all the way to Champery, a quicker way to get to us is to take the train to Aigle and then a 25 minute taxi ride to Champery which will cost you around 100chf.
