Champery is part of the Portes du Soleil ski region - the largest international linked ski area in the world. It offers 650km of pistes across France and Switzerland, and a world class snowfall record. For experts, the off piste is phenomenal, you can spend a entire days skiing without touching a piste. For lovers of serious black runs “The Wall” is reported to be THE steepest black run in Europe. There’s plenty to keep beginners and intermediates happy too – 90% of the local runs are considered green or blue (beginner or intermediate).

Access to the ski domain is either by cable car from the resort centre, or by chair lift from the Grand Paradis - approximately a mile from the resort centre. A free ski bus runs between the cable car, the village high street, and Grand Paradis regularly throughout the day.

Both the cable car from the village centre and the chairlift at the Grand Paradis take skiers and boarders directly up to the Planachaux Bowl.

From Planachaux, you have skiable access to the French ski areas of Avoriaz, Les Gets and Morzine as well as all the other Portes Du Soleil ski resorts. (with a trip back via the infamous Swiss wall for those who dare). The on mountain restaurants aren’t bad either!… See our links page for more details.

Champery and the Portes Du Soleil both have an enviable snow record. Their proximity to Mont Blanc and Lac Leman creates a superb snow making micro-climate which means that the area tends to get above average snowfall from the start of December through to when the lifts close in late April. Because most of the lower slopes are pasture land, depths of 10-20cms are often all that is required to open the pistes, compared with higher altitude resorts where a metre or so is needed to cover the rocks.
